KP's Top 5... Places to explore this weekend.
So the sun is shining + what a weekend to get out + about. Spring is most definitely here!! Yay!! Whether you want to get some fresh air with your family for Mother’s Day, stretching the dogs legs or just getting the kids to let off steam.
Here’s to the sunshine staying around + making getting outdoors so much more fun. I hope you enjoy these 5 gardens, parks, houses + castles… in + around the Cardiff area.
1. Mountain View Ranch
Small people this is for you!! Do you have kids with excess energy that you need to run off? Then Mountain View Ranch is for you. It is an amazing 100 plus acres of free range, family fun!
Plus at the moment there is the best official Gruffalo Trail, with the incredible characters made out of willow.
If you want a big kid to join you on the trail… umm I’ll come!! Just get me a cuppa + a cake at the end in their ace cafe!
2. Botanic Garden of Wales
Back in my old uni territory just down the M4 before you get to Carmarthen you will find Botanical Gardens of Wales. It is well worth the drive, I promise you!
The Great Glasshouse is just amazing… I really need to visit soon as at the moment they have their Woolly Banksia in flower… similar to the guys I am selling in the shop!
3. Bute Park
If you want to keep it local, just stroll in to Bute Park this weekend. This Saturday it’s their Spring Open Day… “What’s Behind the Wall?”
It is 70 years since the park was opened to the public this Spring. A range of events will be held in and around Bute Park Education Centre, including talks, tours and classes by staff from Bute Park, The Salad Garden and the Secret Garden Café amongst others.
4. Castell Coch
Head out of Cardiff up the A470 to Castell Coch, + you will be in for a real treat.
TEN presents an exhibition of new works by Laura Ford in partnership with Cadw. Gallery owner + curator, Cat has the most incredible eye for contemporary art.
Laura Ford unveils a series of new sculptures inside Wales’ iconic Castell Coch [red castle], as visitors are invited to discover over 20 works created by one of the uk’s leading contemporary artists.
5. Dyffryn Gardens
So I have hit peak middle age as I LOVE my garden!! Dyffryn Gardens is the best place to go + get some inspiration + motivation to get my garden in shape.
The National Trust took over Dyffryn, just over 5 years ago, + they are making some amazing changing bringing the garden/ arboretum + house back to its original glory.
It is the perfect place to walk your pooch or child!! The walled gardens + glasshouse are must sees! You will see some serious succulent + cacti specimens!!
If I have to pick a favourite it has to be Castle Coch, Cat has been popping into the shop + telling me about this amazing show case of Laura Ford. I can not wait to see it in the flesh, tonight at the Private View.
